Woodbury Physical Therapist, Maureen Munson-Bette

Woodbury Physical Therapist, Maureen Munson-BetteOur physical therapist, Maureen Munson-Bette, has over thirty years of experience. Her goal is to bring convenience, quality care and excellence in Physical Therapy to the area. She believes experience is the best teacher. She has not only instructed many Physical Therapy students over the years, but she has also been supervisor of Physical Therapy at three of the area hospitals. In that role she was responsible for instruction and supervision of the rehab staff and other hospital personnel that supported the PT department. She has always encouraged her students to get at least two years experience in the hospital setting in order to have the knowledge needed to be an excellent clinician.

Her background includes twenty years as an Acute Care Therapist at Waterbury, St. Mary's and Charlotte Hungerford Hospitals. She held the position of rehabilitation manager at Masonicare in Newtown where she directed care in short and long term rehabilitation. When her son was young she also worked as a consultant to Athena Corporation planning and developing several of their area long and short-term Physical Therapy departments. During this time, she also worked as a home care therapist. Both of these positions enhanced her knowledge of Physical Therapy in geriatrics and medicare regulations.

Over the past 28 years, there is not much she has not done. As a young therapist at St. Mary's Hospital, she had the opportunity to develop the PT cardiac rehab program. She also credits her extensive knowledge of arthritis and related disorders to having attended weekly lectures by a leading Rheumatologist at that hospital.

As supervisor of Waterbury Hospital, she developed a pilot program for PT services in the critical care units, where all trauma patients were screened within 24 hours of admission. She was also a member of the stroke team which was awarded the Connecticut Award of Excellence. Most of her orthopedic knowledge has been gained from working with Dr. Kristaps Keggi, a renowned orthopedic surgeon.

She is a graduate of Quinnipiac University where she received her Physical Therapy degree. She is married to Paul and has one son, Brent. She enjoys boating, water skiing, gardening and cross country skiing.
